Teri Hatcher is arguably best known for her role as Susan Delfino in Desperate Housewives. But not even that experience as a famous housewife can prepare someone for spending all the time we’ve spent in our homes this year. That, however, didn’t stop Hatcher from trying to make the most of it, which meant finding new sources of beauty joy, upgrading her already impressive self-care and beauty regimen, and going easy on herself when she hasn’t stuck to it perfectly.
Hatcher tells Allure that while many people starting doing their own beauty treatments at home when salons and spas were closed, that kind of self-care was nothing new to her. “I always say that impulse mainly came from being a single mom, working crazy hours, and never being able to plan salon appointments,” she says. “I have a waxing machine and long ago began waxing my underarms and other body parts. I have a scrub cloth from Olympic Spa that I used to go to for a spa reboot, so now I scrub my skin in the shower. The closest I’ve gotten to an at-home massage is my cat kneading my back in bed before I go to sleep, but believe me, I’ll take what I can get.”
Hatcher has also been coloring her hair at home for a long time, too, but she took the unusual opportunity this year presented to switch away from her typical drugstore box color. “I had been hearing about Madison Reed for a long time and was always curious about it, but it took quarantine to make me actually go online and order a box so I’d say March was my first time,” she tells Allure. “I had been curious to see if Madison Reed offered a better experience, and luckily for me, it did. It’s just an effortless experience because everything you need comes neatly packed in one tiny box.”
Specifically, she’s been using the brand’s Radiant Hair Color Kit in the shade Sondrio Brown 6.5NNA, which surprised her with how “deeply natural” it looks on her. But she’s already thinking of trying something new. “I may even begin experimenting with highlights,” she says, confident that Madison Reed will make it easy. “There is a lot of help on their website.”
Though she may change up her hair-color routine, Hatcher’s skin-care and makeup routines have stayed steady. “For my face, I use Orveda The Healing Sap. It’s like liquid health seeping into my skin. Elta MD UV Daily Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 sunscreen is my first go-to morning step, and then Natura Bisse The Cure Sheer Eye,” she says. For makeup, she goes with either Benefit They’re Real or Pixi Lash Lift mascara. “That and a little Perricone lipstick, and I’m good to go… well, nowhere, but I feel good.”
